Video - Benedict Sherlock Counterbatch on Sesame Street
I may or may not have giggled like an idiot while I watched this wonderfulness.

Monday Mani - Metebilis 3
Today, I decided to go with one of my own polishes: Metebilis 3, named after the crystals-and-spiders planet that it took a whole season for Doctor Three to get to.
Those square glitters are blue-green iridescent, which doesn't even show here, probably because we have YET ANOTHER gloomy, rainy day and the light is a mess. And I don't know why that pinky there looks like it's messed up--it's totally not!
But overall, I'm pretty pleased. This goes on way sheer on the first coat, but by the second it's almost opaque, and I like painting three coats, so it's solid. You can see the iridescent and the purple glitters on the nail if not in the picture, and it's nice and smooth.
There's a little glitter here on the left thumb, but I decided I didn't like it so it's only there.
What do your nails look like this Monday morning?

Happy Birthday Saint Of Geekdom George Takei!
I would be a terrible geek and a terrible denizen of the interwebs if I didn't wish a happy happy birthday to the wonderful and charming and hilarious and thoughtful George Takei. If you don't know who he is, you've missed out on not only Star Trek, but also a lot of the other most geeky shows around, because he tends to appear on them all, at some point, and steals the show.
Also, he's great to follow around the internet as he comments on memes and social issues.
Some pictures! All belong to whoever they come from, and are borrowed with joy and love, as always.
What a good week for geeky birthdays!

Top Ten Tuesday - What I like most about Doctor Who
Oh, how I lurve me some Doctor Who!
- Narratively, the fact that this is one character that has been eleven different characters, but still, somehow, essentially and quintessentially the same character, is just amazing
- The experience of being a fan of this show in the age of the internet is stunning--the websites, the theories, the art, the news, the tea, everything!
- There is literally something for everyone
- You don't have to know anything at all about the Classic Series, but if you do, it adds this whole other level of metatextuality to the series that supports and calls back and strengthens and adds little jokes to the current run
- It's scifi that's actually fantasy--and fantasy that is always brought back to scifi
- What other show has made pepperpots so freaking scary?
- Ten! My Future Husband David Tennant!
- It's so very open--to age, to race, to sexuality, to interspecies relations of all sorts, to every freaking weird idea anyone has ever had...
- It's fundamentally optimistic about the human condition--people go wrong all the time, but the Doctor loves us enough to keep coming back over and over and saving us, and he believes that we're good, and most of the time we prove that we are.
- Companions! And almost companions like Sally Sparrow, that kid Tim who could see the future, Lynda-with-a-Y, the mother from the Narna Christmas special, everyone. Awesome people who get to do these awesome things that we can dream about but probably won't ever actually get to do.
And I could go on. I probably will, at some point.
What do you like most about this wonderful, weird, funny, intense show?

@EmmyCic They would probably give him a name so American viewers wouldn’t be confused. #drbill

@EmmyCic Also it would be in a style of a documentary, with Dr. Bill explaining to us his feelings. Also no time travel, it’s all in Miami.

@dresdencodak @EmmyCic It will be a crime procedural show about crime doctors. Dr. Who: L.A.

@EmmyCic There was a rumour last year of a one-off American movie with Johnny Depp as The Doctor. I wept Emmy, I wept.

@EmmyCic Didn't they try that once before in 1996? I think it was a failed pilot known as "Doctor Who: The Movie".

wookie!
Picture from here: http://cuteoverload.com/2010/11/08/theres-a-wookie-in-our-front-seat/
I don't know what kind of dog this is, but I MUST own at least one. Preferably more. And they will all be named obscure Wookie names (because most of them are probably named Chewbacca). And instead of collars, I'll train them all to wear shoulder sashes and belts.

link: a world of tweets
http://aworldoftweets.frogdesign.com/
This is kind of beautiful-- a dot for every tweet. As of the time of this writing, the hot spots were NY, London, Paris and Indonesia, and I saw someone tweet from the Azores and the middle of Siberia. It's so great! It's like looking at the world from space, only all you see is people connected to the internet.
I wish there was a way to embed it in realtime so everyone can see it...
California, Japan and Brazil have come onto the scene. And someone just tweeted from Africa! I'm sucky at identifying African countries (all the maps have changed since Geography), but it looked like Cameroon-ish. No, I was wrong-- Nigeria. Man, I need to learn me some maps.

geeeks unite!: comic con, june 2010
I'm firmly behind the idea of ironic protest. Everything else has gone ironic, right? And protesting is such a hot-button topic all the damn time while simultaneously being mostly ignored, that I think this is exactly what the whole thing needs: people using the format to comment on other people using it unironically.
There are great pictures of the geekery here.

rules of acquisition: bpal bprd!
I need this so much I've started a whole new section about it: Rules of Acquisition will be the detailing of things I want so badly I can feel them in my bones. Very first entry: Black Phoenix Achemy Lab (which could be an ntry anyway, with all the wonderous things it has that I NEED or I wil DIE), has a new line of Hellboy inspired scents.

They are as follows:
HELLBOY
Aftershave, candy wrappers, brimstone, and cat.

TREVOR BRUTTENHELM
A classic men’s cologne mixed with the scent of old, yellowed books, a splash of bay rum, and summoning incense.

KROENEN
Shining black leather, gleaming metal, labdanum, and myrrh.

LIZ
A light, feminine vanilla floral perfume and a swirl of smoke and leather.

PLAGUE OF FROGS
Rubbery, wet, and warty.

ABE SAPIEN
A soft aquatic musk with kelp and juniper.

I hope the line is desperately popular so they can expand the range. What would the Ogdru Jahad smell like? Or Rasputin? Mummies? Clockwork monsters? Old gods or faerie royalty or goblins or Baba Yaga or Anung An Rama or Roger or Johan? The world is so rich and full of things that would translate into this form amazingly.
Seriously, I could DIE. If you're looking for something to get me for my birthday, or for Christmas, or for Aveomas or something, this is an amazing choice right here...
